Fabrication and properties of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide reinforced Poly(Vinyl alcohol) nanocomposite films for packaging applications

Petroleum-based polymers have a wide range of uses in the packaging industry, including films, food packaging, rigid containers, foamed medical products, etc. This study focuses on improving properties polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based material systems, one most popular water-soluble biopolymers, to reduce waste petroleum-based plastics, which are widely used. Polyvinyl nanocomposite films containing low concentrations (0.05–1%) graphene oxide (GO) and reduced (rGO) were produced via solution casting method. When electrical evaluated, addition 1 wt% GO rGO resulted 36% 45% decrease volumetric resistance as well surface 24.5% 34.9%, respectively. The maximum tensile strength 1% rGO-reinforced PVA nanocomposites was found be ∼59 MPa ∼68 with an increase 20% 38% compared neat average Young’s modulus also increased from 2561 3515 4219 37% 65%, As result, conductivity, modulus, strength, thermal properties, optical absorption by adding PVA. results show that film may promising for applications.
